From small towns in Southern Illinois to Nashville, Tennessee it has been quite a journey for singer songwriter J Raleigh Jones. Friends call him by his initials, J R.
His interest in songwriting was first expressed when at the age of 9 years old he asked his mother how to write a song. This occurred at the same time he was learning to play guitar from his father and family musicians. The influence of his family of musicians has stayed in his life.
J R had no aspirations beyond playing at church until he was an adult. Still, there was no apparent interest in playing with a band and playing gigs until facing divorce and personal problems. At this point J R took refuge in his music and decided he would do something for himself. That something was to write songs, rehearse up and join a band in Central Illinois where he had relocated. Eventually, J R formed his own band “Change Of Heart” and developed an interest in pursuing his craft in Nashville. ...He was not interested in touring nationally but did record his first album in Nashville and gigged on a regional level. This continued in Central Illinois until he relocated to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi in the year 2000. J R became more involved in Nashville recording and put together a band.
